“May love and laughter light your days,
And warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
Wherever you might roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world,
With joy that long endures.
May all life’s passing seasons bring the best to you and yours.”
-An Old Irish Blessing
With March 17th quickly approaching, it was time to get our red house a little green!
I decorate simply for St. Patrick’s Day. This year I wanted to focus my dining room table around this beautiful tea pot.
This tea pot was a gift from my aunt, for my 30th birthday. Having lost my lovely, Irish grandmother just a few weeks prior to my birthday, opening this teapot was extremely sentimental. It is a gorgeous piece of Irish china, something my aunt knew would be very special to me. I decided that it must be the focal point of my dining room to celebrate my Irish heritage and St. Patrick.
Everything that I used to create this look, was something we had in our home. I used a ivory table runner to match the teapot. Knowing that I needed to raise the teapot off the table, I set it on a pretty pewter cake stand, to give it height. The song “When Irish Eyes are Smiling” reminds me so much of my grandmother, I knew I wanted to incorporate the lyrics. I found a free printable of the song online, only to print and frame it. I matched the ivory table runner with an ivory napkin and picture frame. To add just a little more green to the room, I wrapped the bottom of the cake stand and a vase on my mantle in a gorgeous green silk ribbon.
I was able to highlight my beautiful gift and decorate for the holiday without spending a dime! Now that would make my hardworking Irish grandparents proud. Don’t forget to shop around your own home for decor, highlight special pieces to you. They are inexpensive ways to decorate, but also get to tell a meaningful story.
May the luck of the Irish always be with you!
